Jay Z partly admit to Cheating on Beyonce in his new Album 4:44

Last year, some of songs on Beyoncé's album Lemonade told the world – or at least strongly hinted to the world – that her nine-year marriage had been sorely tested by husband Jay Z's infidelity, referencing an apparent extra-marital relationship with an anonymous woman (described only as "Becky with the good hair").

Now, it seems that Jay Z has publicly answered many of the accusations, speaking honestly about his family life and his marriage in songs from his new album 4.44.

The Duke of Cambridge, Prince William and former British Prime Minister, David Cameron, have become embroiled in a row over corruption in football as the full extent of England’s failed attempt to stage the 2018 World Cup was made public.

The former prime minister and Prince William were at a meeting during which a vote-swapping deal between England and South Korea was discussed, according to an official report released yesterday night.

The long-awaited FIFA report, according to the London-based Telegraph Newspaper, has disclosed the lengths to which England’s football bosses went to court FIFA executives, many of them now discredited, as they sought to secure votes for England’s 2018 bid.



Evans Victim, Chief Donatus Dunu Alleges Threat to Life

Owner of Maydon Pharmaceutical Company, Ilupeju, Lagos State, Chief Donatus Dunu, who escaped mysteriously from the den of kidnap kingpin, Evan’s detention camp at Igando, a Lagos suburb, leading to police round up of the gang, yesterday lamented that the recent release of his workers, suspected to have taken part in his abduction, has placed his life in danger.

Dunu, who was visibly traumatized by the development, told newsmen that it was not in order for either the police or the court to grant bail to suspects of such high profile case with startling revelations from the leader of the most dangerous kidnapping gang in the country.

19-year-Old Singer Wins N10m in the GCGT Season 7 Talent Competition

Nineteen-year-old singer, Miss Esther Benyeogo, has emerged winner of the God’s Children Great Talent Season 7, carting away N250m management deal, N10m cash and a brand new car.

The GCGT Grand Finale held on Saturday at the Eko Convention Centre, Eko Hotel and Suites, Victoria Island, Lagos.

GCGT is a Christian talent competition that began in 2011 and is organised by the `City of David’, Victoria Island, a parish of the Redeemed Christian Church of God.

It is Africa’s Leading Youth Talent Competition featuring skills such as singing, dancing, musical instruments, spoken words, drama, writing and drawing.



Tax Defaulters Risk at Least Five Years jail and Asset Forfeiture - FG

The Minister of Finance, Mrs Kemi Adeosun has disclosed that tax defaulters in the country risk at least five years jail and asset forfeiture.

Her warning is coming even as the Acting President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, will on Thursday, June 29, launch the Voluntary Asset and Income Declaration Scheme (VAIDS), a new tax reform programme of the Federal Government aimed at increasing tax awareness and compliance.

The Minister, in a statement in Abuja yesterday said: “Punishment for evasion is severe. All tax evaders, when identified, are subject to the full force of Nigerian and international law, including imprisonment of up to five years.



Abba Kyari Slams Kate Henshaw for Criticizing Police Officers who Posed for Photos with Evans



A top policeman involved in the arrest of billionaire kidnapper Evans has opened up on how herculean  the operation was. ACP Abba Kyari who led the arrest  said the notorious kidnapper Evans was really smart and smooth during his operations hence made it really difficult for policemen to catch up with him.

He also reacted to actress Kate Henshaw's comments criticizing some Nigerian Police Officers who posed for photos with Evans.

In an interview with DailyPost ACP Abba Kyari said: 

''Who is Kate Henshaw and what does she know? She must be out of her mind to criticize us. Even in other developed countries, people celebrate the capture of criminals and I wonder why she is running her mouth criticizing us why she has never caught a fly in her entire life.''

Lagos is the 13th Most Expensive City to Live in the World

Lagos, the capital of Lagos State, is the 13th most expensive city in the world, says Mercer, the world’s largest human resource consulting firm.

The consulting firm also said in its 23rd Cost of Living Survey that African, Asian, and European cities dominated the 2017 list of most expensive locations for working abroad.

According to the survey, Abuja, Nigeria’s federal capital, ranked 20th in 2016. The capital city of Angola, Luanda, however, ranked first globally, moving up from second place and taking over from Hong Kong as the world’s most expensive city.

20 -Year Old Olukayode Oluwasona Sets Record, Graduates with 5.0 CGPA in Poland

A young Nigerian has again made academic history in far away Poland, graduating with a Cummulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 5.0 in Computer Technology from the University of Computer Sciences and Skills, Lodz, Poland. Already leading in first class from his first semester examinations in Babcock University, 20-year old Olukayode Mobolaji Oluwasona, was among the 17 outstanding students of Babcock University that left Nigeria at the beginning of their 200-level programme in 2014 to continue undergraduate studies in Poland. This was under a special degree exchange programme arranged by Babcock University with the University of Computer Sciences and Skills in Lodz, Poland, where they remained ‘international students’ until the end of their four-year course.



1.5 Million People at the brink of Starvation in Nigeria - Study

Prolonged conflicts and droughts have left an unprecedented 81 million people needing food aid in 2017, a specialist U.S.-based agency said on Wednesday, revising up its earlier estimates.

Furthermore, it said there is still a risk of famine looming over Somalia, Yemen, Nigeria, and South Sudan, despite the international community committing about $2.2 billion to address the various crises since January.  In Nigeria, some 1.5 million people are on the brink of starvation in the northeast regions, hit by an eight-year insurgency by Boko Haram Islamists.

People in 45 countries are unable to feed themselves, said the Famine Early Warning Systems Network (FEWS NET), which issues alarms about food shortages to the U.S. government.

Banks take over Etisalat over $1.2 Billion Debt

Lending bankers yesterday took over telecommunications company Etisalat and subsequently announced changes in the shareholding structure of the company.

Access Bank Plc and other Nigerian banks eventually took over the management of the company, effective June 15 after a protracted $1.2 billion debt impasse. Other lenders in the loan deal are Zenith Bank, GTBank, First Bank, UBA, Fidelity Bank, Ecobank, FCMB, Stanbic IBTC Bank and Union Bank.

A source privy to the arrangement told Akonuche that the affected banks had requested a new management of the telecoms firm.

No Going back on Deadline for Igbo, say Northern Youths

The coalition of northern youth groups insisted yesterday that Igbo residing in their region must leave on October 1, 2017.The groups, including the Arewa Youth Consultative Forum (AYCF) urged the Acting President, Yemi Osinbajo to allow the emergence of Biafran State from Nigeria.

The position of the northern youths indicates that there is no easy solution to the crisis over the eviction notice despite the assurances by the Federal Government and some leaders.

Woman Gives Birth on Flight, Baby gets free Travel for Life


An Idian woman gave birth to a baby boy on an international commercial flight as it flew at 35,000 feet, the airline said on Monday.

The unnamed woman, in her 20s, went into premature labour on Sunday’s Jet Airways flight between Damman in Saudi Arabia and Kochi in the southern Indian state of Kerala.

“The guest delivered a baby boy at 35,000 feet,” Jet Airways said in a statement, adding that a paramedic on board and airline staff helped with the delivery.

Notorious kidnap kingpin, Chukwudubem Onwuamadike, a.k.a Evans, who was arrested, recently, by the police for coordinating several high profile kidnappings and armed robberies within Lagos, Anambra and Enugu States, yesterday, led police operatives to two houses in Ejigbo and Igando areas of Lagos state, where he kept some of his victims for months.

This was as he admitted during a chat with Vanguard yesterday that he has not seen his father for a long time but that he took good care of him by buying him two vehicles, which are currently in his village compound and also gave him the sum of N3 million, which he said, his father used to start fish farming and his pig rearing business. Evans revealed during the visit to his Igando hideout, located at Green Street, that he kept five persons including  Chief James Uduji and Francis Umeh at the Igando den. He stated that he vacated the den when people started suspecting his activities in the area.

London Fire: Death Toll Hits 30, Dozens still Missing

About 30 people have been confirmed killed and dozens more are feared dead and missing in the London tower block fire, police said on Friday, as firefighters continued searching for bodies amid outrage over the use of cladding blamed for spreading the flames.

“We know that at least 30 people have died as a result of this fire… I do believe the number will increase,” police commander Stuart Cundy told reporters in front of the charred Grenfell Tower.



Tears as Cheick Tiote's Body arrive Ivory Coast

Over a thousand fans and some twenty international teammates were present at Abidjan airport on Thursday to pay their respects as the body of football star Cheick Tiote, who died in China earlier this month aged 30, was brought home.

Family members and fans could not contain their grief as Tiote’s coffin was carried through the airport.

Obama hails Jay Z as first rapper in Songwriters Hall of Fame

Former US president Barack Obama hailed Jay Z as a kindred spirit and inspiration as the hip-hop mogul became the first rapper to enter the Songwriters Hall of Fame on Thursday.

The elite club also welcomed Motown records’ pathbreaking founder Berry Gordy and Swedish hitmaker Max Martin at its annual induction — an evening of performances by top stars that, like songwriters, stayed decidedly lower-key than televised award galas.

Obama made a surprise appearance by video to present the honor to Jay Z, who grew up as Sean Carter in a troubled housing project in Brooklyn and has gone on to become one of music’s wealthiest entrepreneurs.

Army arrests wanted “Notorious kidnapper” along Abuja-Kaduna Road

The Nigerian Army spokesperson, Sani Usman, on Thursday said troops from the army’s One Division in Kaduna State have apprehended the alleged leader of an armed banditry syndicate, Sani Ibrahim.

According to premium Times, Mr. Usman, a brigadier-general, said the suspected bandit fondly called “Burtu” had been terrorising travelers along Kaduna-Abuja express road.

The wife of incoming Lesotho Prime Minister Tom Thabane was shot dead late yesterday, two days before her husband's inauguration, raising fears of another wave of political violence in the southern African mountain kingdom.

Police spokesperson Clifford Molefe said Lipolelo Thabane, 58, was traveling home with a friend when both women where shot by an unknown assailant in the town of Masana, just outside the capital, Maseru.

Former President of the Christian Association of Nigeria, Anthony Cardinal Okogie, has dismissed the federal system of government being practised in Nigeria as not serving the people.

The former Catholic Archbishop of Lagos, in a statement titled, ‘Deprivation and Agitation: A Reflection on Nigeria’s Late 2017 Budget,’ which was sent to The Punch yesterday, decried the poor state of livelihood of Nigerians.

Federal Government Arraigns Five for Illegal importation of Guns

The Federal Government on Wednesday arraigned five men for allegedly importing 661 pump-action rifles into the country without lawful authority.
The accused were arraigned before Justice Ayokunle Faji at the Federal High Court in Lagos.

They are Mahmud Hassan, Oscar Okafor, Donatus Achinulo, Matthew Okoye, said be at large, and Salihu Danjuma.

In the charge, the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice said the accused brought the rifles into the country from Turkey through the Apapa Port in Lagos, using a 40-feet container, which they falsely claimed contained steel doors.

Senator Bukola Saraki has no Case to Answer - CCT

The Code Of Conduct Tribunal has ruled that Senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki has no case to answer in the 18 charges of non-declaration of assets brought against him by the Federal Government.

The CCB had on September 16, 2015 filed a 13-count charge against Saraki for alleged false and anticipatory declaration of assets.



South Korea arrests Nigerian for smuggling meth worth $1.7m

South Korean officials said Wednesday they have arrested a 46 year-old Nigerian for smuggling large amounts of methamphetamines, also called meth, into the country through international mail from China.

The Nigerian yet to be identified is being detained by the Gyeongnam Provincial Police Agency in Seoul.

Yonhap, the Korean news agency said the Nigerian twice last week and via post attempted to smuggle into the country 605 grams of meth , worth some 2 billion won (US$1.77 million). The drug was hidden in women’s cosmetic products.

El-Rufai Orders Arrest of Northern Youths Ordering Igbo Citizens to Vacate the North

The Kaduna state government on Wednesday, June 7, ordered the immediate arrest of signatories of “Northern Youths” that issued a statement ordering Igbos out of northern Nigeria. This was disclosed by the spokesperson to the governor of Kaduna state, Samuel Aruwan on Wednesday. AKONUCHE rUFA recalls that a group named, the Coalition of Northern Youths (CNY) had on Tuesday, June 6, issued a statement ordering Igbo people in the north to vacate Northern Nigeria within 3 months. The group had also urged northern people in the south-eastern part of the country to immediately start moving back to their various states. But reacting to the development while speaking with newsmen today, Aruwan stressed that the ‘ Kaduna State Government condemns’ the act in the strongest terms. South Africa Plunges into Recession

South Africa has entered recession for the first time in eight years, data from Statistics South Africa confirmed  on Tuesday.

According to the new  report by the French news agency, AFP, the data from Statistics South Africa in Pretoria showed the first quarter contraction was led by weak manufacturing and trade.

But as South Africa’s economy slips into recession, that of Nigeria is showing great promise as the World Bank has lifted its 2017 growth projection for the Nigerian economy to 1.2 per cent, higher than the one per cent it had predicted previously.



2.1 Million Nigerians Lost their jobs in 2016 –NBS

The National Bureau of Statistics has said that the number of Nigerians who became unemployed rose by 2.1 million to 11.55 million at the end of 2016 from 9.48 million at the beginning of the year.

The NBS stated this in its unemployment report, which was released on Monday night.

The NBS report stated that the unemployment rate was highest for persons in the labour force between the ages of 15-24 and 25-34, which represents the youth population in Nigeria.

Divorce Harms Children’s Health for Decades – Study

When children live through a contentious divorce or separation by their parents, the fallout appears to harm their health for decades, even into adulthood, researchers said Monday.

The study involved 201 healthy adults who agreed to be quarantined, exposed to a virus that causes the common cold, and monitored for five days.

Those whose parents had separated and had not spoken to each other for years were three times as likely to get sick, compared to those whose parents had separated but had stayed in touch as the children grew. 

Previous research has shown that adults whose parents separated during childhood have an increased risk for poorer health.

Jobless Nigerians now 11.5 Million as Unemployment Rate hits 14.2% -NBS

The National Bureau of Statistics has said that the number of  Nigerians that are unemployed rose from 11.19  million as at the end of the third quarter of 2016 to 11.55  million in the fourth quarter of 2016.

The NBS stated this in its unemployment report which was released on Monday night. The report explained that during the period, the unemployment rate rose from 13.9 per cent to 14.2 per cent.

The NBS report said that unemployment rate was highest for persons in the labour force between the ages of 15‐24 and 25‐34, which represents the youth population in Nigeria.

The Bank of Agriculture has decried the alleged unwillingness of South-East businessmen to repay loans.

A representative of Bank of Agriculture’s South-East Zonal Office, Enugu, Mr Aaron Obigbo, who spoke at a workshop organised by a research institute, the Development Strategy Centre, Enugu, raised the alarm over the high rate of loan defaulters among borrowers in the South-East.The workshop themed, “Pro-poor growth, unemployment and poverty in Nigeria: A South-East agenda”, was organised in partnership with the African Economic Research Consortium, Kenya.
