Afrinvest Appoints New Chairman, Director



Leading wealth advisory firm, Afrinvest (West Africa) Limited, has announced the appointment of Dr. Fidelis Nde-Che as the new Chairman of its Board of Directors while Dr. Abdulrahman Sambo has been named a Director of the company.

In a statement made available to business reporters, Ike Chioke, Group Managing Director and CEO of Afrinvest said, “we are pleased to announce that Dr. Fidelis Nde-Che has been appointed Chairman of the Afrinvest Board of Directors, following the resignation of our erstwhile Chairman, Mr. Godwin Obaseki.”

Rescued Young Lady , Serah Luka, not on our List – Chibok parents

Campaigners on Friday questioned a Nigerian military claim that a second Chibok schoolgirl had been rescued, but the army maintained she was one of the 219 abducted by Boko Haram.

Yakubu Nkeki, the head of the Chibok Abducted Girls Parents group, told the AFP the military contacted him before an announcement was made on Wednesday about the discovery of the first girl, Amina Ali.

“We were able to identify her and then establish her parents,” he told AFP. But there was no call before Nigeria’s army announced late Thursday that a second schoolgirl had been rescued.

Pandemonium broke out early morning on Friday in Makurdi when gunmen shot and killed the senior special assistant on security to Governor Samuel Ortom, Mr. Deneen Igbana in his private residence.

This came just as assailants has attacked the police C Division located in Northbank area of Makurdi and shot the Divisional police Officer (DPO) of the station and his orderly.

Troops of 231 Battalion, 331 Artillery Regiment (AR), Detachment of Armed Forces Special Forces (AFSF) 2, Explosive Ordinance (EOD) Team and Civilian Vigilante group of Buratai rescued another girl Miss Serah Luka believed to be one of the Chibok  Government Secondary School girls that were abducted in April 2014. 

 97 women and children held captives by the Boko Haram terrorists were also rescued. The troops  continued  clearance operations at Shettima Aboh, Hong and Biladdili general area in Damboa Local Government Area of Borno State.

Rescued Chibok Girl Handed over to Bornu State Governor

The rescued Chibok school girl, Amina Ali, was airlifted by Nigeria Air Force Super Puma aircraft from Damboa to Maiduguri alongside her baby and supposed husband, Mohammed Hayatu.

According to the Acting Director Army Public Relations, Colonel Sani Kukasheka Usman, Amina and Mohammed were examined at Air Force medical facility and were found to be stable and normal blood pressure was observed. Thereafter, Amina was released to the Operation LAFIYA DOLE headquarters for further investigation and handing over.

The Nigeria Army has released a statement confirming the rescue of one of the missing Chibok girls named Amina Ali Nkeki from Mbalala village in Borno state. The short statement released on the Army website and signed by the Acting Director, Army Public Relations, Col. Sani Usman, reads

Activists and the Chairman of Chibok Community - Abuja, Tsambido Hosea Abana, have confirmed that one of the abducted Chibok girks named Amina Ali Nkek, was found by a vigilante group yesterday in Kulakaisa area, at the fringes of Sambisa Forest. .

The girls were taken by militants from the Boko Haram Islamist group.
Amina was reportedly identified by a civilian fighter who recognised her. The fighter belonged to the Civilian Joint Task Force (JTF), a vigilante group set up to help fight Boko Haram.



Factional Labour group Reaches Agreement with FG

The federal government on Tuesday reached an agreement with the factional labour group to review the petroleum pump price increase, minimum wage demands and palliatives expected to cushion the effect of the current economic hardship.

The faction of the labour group led by Comrade Joe Ajaero and NUPENG President, Comrade Igwe Achese met with the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Babachir Lawal, Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Dr Ibe Kachikwu, Minister of Labour and Employment, Sen. Chris Ngige, Minister of Information and Cultural Orientation, Lai Muhammed and Governor Adams Oshiomhole of Edo State.

Belize has joined the growing number of Latin American nations grappling with the Zika virus, after the health ministry confirmed the country’s first known case.
Authorities said Monday the infected person resides in Belize City, adding that efforts would be taken to prevent the virus from spreading.

24 Year Old Female Passenger Arrested with 193 Wraps of Cocaine at Lagos International Airport

Officials of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency discovered 193 wraps of Cocaine  in the luggage of a twenty-four year-old female passenger from Dubai, United Arab Emirates.

A suspected member of the drug cartel has been arrested.

NDLEA commander at the Lagos Airport, Mr. Ahmadu Garba said that the suspect who hails from Edo State was found in possession of the drug while a suspected member of the drug cartel in Lagos was successfully traced and apprehended.

Sequel to the arrest of its Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer (MD/CEO), Mr. Nnamdi Okonkwo, by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Fidelity Bank Plc monday announced the appointment of its Executive Director North, Alhaji Mohammed Lawal Balarabe, as its acting MD/CEO.

The appointment was announced after a board meeting which ended last night.

A two-paragraph statement at the end of the meeting said Balarabe’s appointment, which took effect last night, was subject to regulatory approval even as the bank assured its stakeholders of continued seamless services.
